I was in the military during 9/11 and suddenly we were inundated with evangelicals: new recruits who wanted the military to conform to their beliefs rather than the way we all had to conform to the military. They were hostile, uneducated, losers who brought down the basic competence level of every unit they infiltrated.

Ok, but the bible is a work of fiction.

The Christian Church didn't select Revelation to be part of the Canon that became the Bible until the end of the 4th Century. And they had previously dropped Enoch, which also had a 7,000 year timeline that ended with the Millennium. The Enoch timeline defined those days as an apostate generation, and looked forward to the Son of Man and his angel army preparing the world for the Millennium 2,000 years later. This is cited in both Matthew and Jude. By the time the Church dropped Enoch, the Church had become the Roman Empire, and revolutionary expectations were getting embarrassing.
